WIT Feb 2005 Update

Women in IT February 2005 Update
Our local Women in IT team works to encourage young women to get involved with technology. We try to change the negative perception young women have about information technology through educational programs and activities that focus on the benefits of technology and IT careers. We encourage female students to embrace technology, and to understand that technology plays a role in nearly every career choice!Current Activities
Campbell Collegiate CSI Event - NEW DATE March 8, 2005: We have delayed the CSI event to March 8. This project involves partnering with IBM, the Regina Police Service, and RCMP Forensics to plan an event at Campbell Collegiate. This event will involve female students learning about the technology used to investigate crime scenes. Working with the student investigators, we will present the event to the Grade 9 female students at Campbell. If you are a female IT professional, please consider joining us on March 8 as a mentor! We are looking for IT professionals to act as mentors, introducing yourself and the area of technology in which you work to a small group of grade 9 students. If you would like to volunteer, or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact Diane Gutiw. Diane is a member of the Women in IT committee and can be reached at dgutiw@www.tice.ca.
Conference & Career Fair Participation
We participate in local events held in Regina for students and young women. We have either supplied a booth providing information and discussion or we have been presenters, showing that technology is involved with every career choice and that there is a variety of options in the IT field.
New Initiatives
For 2005, we are exploring the possibility of offering a small scholarship to a female student at each high school in Regina. This may be a centennial initiative, celebrating Saskatchewan's centennial in 2005. More information to follow!
